KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of the Afghan National Army and French Task Force La Fayette conducted Operation Kapisa Synapse, to secure a new sector and set up a new combat outpost in the heart of Tagab valley, in Afghanistan’s Kapisa province, March 1 through 7. During the first night of the operation, a company-sized element air-assaulted into the valley to conduct reconnaissance and clear the area of any potential hazards. The second day, sappers, equipped with heavy means and under the protection of armoured vehicles, drew the COP foundation before building the operational structure and adequate perimeter defences.
Answering needs expressed by the population, French builders also inaugurated a well in Kanshamkay village and scouted out a site to establish a bridge on the Ouaddi River.
On the last day, a shura was held with the commanders of Task Force La Fayette and 201st ANA Corps, the governor of the province, and maleks and elders of the district to mark the completion of the new COP.
The new COP falls in line with similar outposts that are being set up in neighboring valleys. The objective of the new COPs is so the Afghan National Security Forces will have solid operational bases to help them better securing the Bedraou district.
