PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Coalition forces recovered a large munitions cache in the Bagram district here Aug. 10.
Responding to an Afghan citizen who uncovered the cache while digging, a coalition forces explosive ordnance disposal team secured the site, detonated munitions that could not be safely removed, and transported the remaining munitions to Bagram Airfield for disposal.
The cache included 115 82mm mortars and 10 60mm mortars. These types of munitions have been used in roadside bombs that have injured and killed innocent Afghan civilians.
“The citizens of Parwan are taking positive action to ensure these types of munitions don’t get into the hands of the insurgents,” said U.S. Army Col. Thomas E. Drew, deputy commanding officer, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Wolverine.
Anyone who knows the location of any weapons caches or unexploded ordnance should call the Parwan Community Safety Line at 0796503599.
