(U.S. Army courtesy photo) PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Police responded to the call of concerned citizens in Charikar and discover one improvised explosive device and three unexploded ordinance sites July 28.

UXO is a major problem in Afghanistan due to the years of war with the former Soviet Union, however, ANP explosive ordinance disposal teams are trained to safely recover and dispose of the dangerous devices.

The Afghan Police EOD team located and safely removed the IED from alongside a road in Charikar.

The team also recovered one buried anti-tank mine, one anti-personnel mine, several mortar shells and a blasting cap from three separate sites.

“It is a positive sign that the people in Charikar are taking the initiative to report these sites to the proper authorities,” said U.S. Army Col. Will Roy, commander, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain), Task Force Wolverine. “Providing safety and security for the people of Parwan is key to building an enduring relationship between the community and the Afghan National Security Forces.”

If anyone knows the location of any unexploded ordinance or weapons caches they should call the Parwan community safety line at 0796503599.
