(Courtesy photo)BAMYAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of the New Zealand Provincial Reconstruction Team destroyed numerous weapon caches, collected over a six- week period in Bamyan province, May 29.

The caches were reported as part of the Department of Defense Rewards Program that pays individuals for information that leads to the seizure of illegal weapons.


“The DOD rewards program is an invaluable tool to Task Force Wolverine units in the field,” said U.S. Army Col. William F. Roy, TF Wolverine commander. “It provides an additional incentive for Afghan civilians to work as partners with Coalition forces to help defeat threats to the citizens of Afghanistan.”

The PRT destroyed 84 anti-tank projectiles, six 82 mm rockets, 22 recoilless rifles, 56 mortars, 415 40 mm grenade launcher projectiles, 268 hand grenades, 300 fuses, 12 anti-personnel mines, as well as other ordnances.

There are community safety lines across Afghanistan for citizens to report criminal activities and weapon caches to potentially receive rewards.


Those with information concerning a weapons cache should call the provincial community safety call-in lines:  Bamyan province: 079-925-3277, Parwan province: 079-825-9059 Panjshir province: 079-383-9591.

Citizens in other provinces should contact their local Afghan National Security Forces directly for the number in their area.
