LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan –Members of the Logar province National Security Directorate captured two improvised explosive device emplacers and recovered the explosives they attempted to place, Oct. 27.
The Logar NSD received information from a source that insurgents were planting an IED on a dirt road between the villages of Hesarak and Hakimkhel.
The NSD went to the location and observed two males matching the description of the insurgents given by the source. The two men were loitering in the area.
After the men left, the NSD searched the area and discovered a Shaheen pressure plate connected to wires, detonating cord and a blasting cap. The blasting cap was inserted into a large yellow plastic jug buried in the dirt road.
NSD rendered the IED safe and collected all the components of the IED for future exploitation.
NSD located the two suspects, arrested them and transported them to a secure facility for processing.
The suspects had their biometrics, DNA and fingerprints recorded by NSD officials.
NSD turned over all the components of the IED to International Security Assistance Forces Counter IED teams, who processed the evidence and sent it to a laboratory in Bagram for further testing.
