Luth, from Yorktown, Va., with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Lethal Warrior, receives a Bronze Star Medal with Valor for his exceptionally valorous conduct while conducting route clearance in support of the Afghan National Elections as a platoon leader, Aug.                                                                                                   20. Luth’s route covered 17 kilometers, 14 of which were the most improvised explosive device laden stretch in Kunar province, over the last six months with more than 25 IED events. Wedemeyer, from Lupton, Colo., with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Lethal Warrior, receives a Bronze Star Medal with Valor for exhibiting remarkable courage and valiant fortitude during a fierce enemy engagement in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, July 17. While on patrol, the platoon took heavy and accurate fire from multiple enemy locations. Wedemeyer, who had severely sprained his ankle, selflessly exposed himself multiple times to enemy fire to ensure the safety of his fellow Soldiers. When the medical evacuation helicopter arrived to take away five injured Soldiers, Wedemeyer assisted the medics to hoist the Soldiers to safety while still taking direct fire from the enemy. Rodriguez, from Stafford, Va., with Troop B, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, Task Force Destroyer, receives a Bronze Star Medal with Valor for his actions during a complex enemy attack on Combat Outpost Keating in eastern Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, Oct. 3. Rodriguez was in the aid station when several rocket-propelled grenade rounds impacted inside the perimeter. With disregard for his own personal safety, he ran 300 meters, under heavy fire, to take over use of a M240B machinegun, when one of his fellow Soldiers was killed. Rodriguez laid down suppressive fire on the enemy assault. When the enemy advance reached his position, he employed fragmentation grenades, driving back several enemy fighters, preventing more enemy forces from breaching the perimeter and engaging the maneuver elements fighting below.
