KONAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan– Tribal elders from Watapor met the district subgovernor at the Watapur District Center to discuss a variety of topics, Feb. 25.
At the meeting, the elders discussed the reconciliation program that involves providing opportunities to some insurgents in exchange for them turning away from violence. All in attendance agreed that another shura should be scheduled with more than 300 elders to discuss reconciliation. In nearby Chapa Dara district, elders of the Safi tribes came together with a local Afghan police chief to share a meal and discuss security in their respective districts, March 2.
