NZ PRT destroys weapons cache in Bamyan

BAMYAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of Kiwi Team 2 of the New Zealand Provincial Reconstruction Team in Bamyan province, Afghanistan, destroyed a cache of weaponry, Feb. 28.

The cache, discovered in a small cave in a village, contained 26 rocket-propelled-grenade expelling carts, 25 RPG-7 rockets, 200 12.7mm rounds, 400 9mm rounds, and 1,400 7.62mm short rounds. Those who reported the weapons to Coalition forces may receive a reward for their help in turning in the weapons. This is part of the Department of Defense Rewards Program on-going throughout Afghanistan.

There are community safety lines across Afghanistan for citizens to report criminal activities and weapons caches to potentially receive rewards.

Those with information concerning a weapons cache should call the provincial community safety call-in lines: Bamyan province: 079-925-3277, Parwan province: 079-825-9059.

Citizens in other provinces should contact their local Afghan National Security Forces directly for the number in their area.
