LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Task Force Iron Gray and Task Force Wildhorse Soldiers conducted a joint operation with Afghan National Security Forces to safely remove and destroy an insurgent weapons cache in eastern Afghanistan’s Laghman province, Feb. 25.
Soldiers from, Company B, 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry Regiment and Afghan National Police went to investigate a tip about the suspected weapons cache located in the Alingar district.
The patrol found a cache consisting of 55 mortars and rockets, ten mines, six unknown projectiles, three blasting caps, two unknown explosive formed projectile devices and other weapons system components located in a cave near the village of Kesherdaka.
An Explosive Ordnance Team rendered the ordnance safe, while a team of law enforcement professionals conducted site exploitation and gathered evidence.
Once complete, the cache was taken away to safe location in order to perform a controlled detonation.
The operation was viewed as a success for the incoming Iron Gray Soldiers and showed the benefits of maintaining an information tip line for locals to report such weapons caches and insurgent activities.
