KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Lethal, Civil Affairs Team Alpha, and members of the United States Agency for International Development conducted a meeting to discuss youth shura development and support in the Nangalam, Dari Khar, Manogai, and Watapur Districts of Kunar province, Nov. 5.
The meeting targeted vulnerable youth, typically males from ages 14 to 19 at risk of Anti-Afghan Forces influence. The organization is working to give them alternatives to violence.
Task Force Lethal discussed the Youth Shura organization in Dari Khar in hopes of combining several youth groups into one larger, united youth leaders group.
They engaged Youth Shura leaders from Dari Khar and Nangalam in the bazaar to discuss incentive-based community service and small project implementation, such as trash collection, for youth rewards like sports equipment.
The meeting was coordinated with the Youth Shura organization and the Afghan government.
Plans underway to initiate similar youth organizations in neighboring districts and there are monthly youth meetings proposed in the Manogai District.
