BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – An Afghan motorcyclist died of injuries caused from a collision with a Coalition vehicle today in Parwan Province.

As a Coalition convoy was returning to BAF, an oncoming motorcyclist attempted to pass a bicycle rider when they hit each other causing the motorcyclist to lose control swerving into the front end of a military vehicle.

Coalition forces immediately stopped the convoy to assess the situation and they discovered the motorcyclist suffering from multiple injuries. Coalition servicemembers provided immediate first-aid and requested medical evacuation to a nearby Coalition treatment facility.

The MEDEVAC request was approved, however, the motorcyclist died of injuries sustained in the accident.

“We are saddened anytime an Afghan civilian loses their life, and our condolences go out to the family during this tragic time,” said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force-82 spokesperson. “Coalition forces did everything they could to save the motorcyclist’s life and are trained to be extra vigilant on the roads to avoid civilians.”

The accident is currently under investigation.
