GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Proudly, each of the 30 men held up their certificate and proclaimed, “I will serve for Afghanistan,” during a graduation from advanced training for an elite Afghan police unit.
Polish Forces from Task Force White Eagle, who train Ghazni’s Provincial Response Company and Afghan police leadership, celebrated the event, which marked completion of six weeks of advanced training, which was conducted after six weeks of basic training.
“I have served with the ANP for 5 years,” said Zine Nullah, Ghazni PRC education chief. “I have taken many courses, but this one is the best. It is very, very useful for us. The skills they have taught will be very useful in protecting our province.”
The Afghan National Police who attended the course were instructed in close-quarters combat, clearing and searching of buildings, medical treatment, dynamic shooting, evidence collection as well as mission planning and other police skills.
“We are very thankful of ISAF for the training they are providing and everything they are doing,” said Gen. Zarawar Zahid, Ghazni ANP commander. “I am very happy to have such a unit as the PRC in Ghazni. They have been very well trained and are ready for defending the province.”
Ghazni’s PRC have already had success garnering them national attention. They recently found Afghan antiquities in the trunk of a car at traffic checkpoint. The item, worth thousands, possibly millions on the black market, was turned in and now resides in a museum in Kabul.
