BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – A reconstruction team solely dedicated to Parwan province is open and ready for business here.

The Parwan Provincial Reconstruction Team is made up more than 90 military and civilian employees from the U.S. Navy, Army, Air Force, Departments of State and Agriculture, U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and linguists.

The mission of the PRT is to help conduct counterinsurgency and stability operations in the province in order to separate anti-Afghan forces from the population. Another focus for the team is to connect the people to competent, capable and credible Afghan institutions, as well as to help transform the districts of Parwan into functioning districts under the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the provincial governor.

“I am excited to be here and working in Parwan Province,” said Navy Cmdr. Kyle Higgins, Parwan PRT commander. “My team and I are looking forward to assisting the local government develop the province’s infrastructure and economy.”

“There is a lot of potential in Parwan, and I’d like to focus my team on finding the potential in all the province’s districts,” the commander said. “Our goal is to identify projects we can help the government with that will better the lives of the people living here and to set our replacements up for success.”
