GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Coalition soldiers assigned to Forward Operating Base Ghazni, saved a Jaghato district Afghan National Policeman who was shot in the head by insurgents during a routine patrol, Nov. 7.
A quick reaction force comprised of American and Polish soldiers responded immediately, escorting a medical evacuation team from FOB Ghazni to Jaghato, located 20 kilometers west of Ghazni City.
The injured ANP was transported by air to FOB Ghazni and given emergency medical treatment by the 452nd Forward Surgical Team.
“The patient had a lot of luck because the bullet brushed his skull. A few millimeters lower and he could have been killed on the spot,” said Lt. Col. Tomasz Bojanowski, Polish Medical Support Group commander. “Our doctors gave him professional help and prepared him to be transported to the specialist hospital.”
No other injuries were sustained at the scene.
