KABUL, Afghanistan (July 12) - A joint operation between the Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Forces was launched early today in order to defeat anti-Afghan forces in the sparsely populated Barge Matal District in north eastern Nuristan Province.

ANSF and ISAF were able to easily gain control of the Barge Matal District Centre and the surrounding area in the early morning operation.

Coalition commanders are meeting with village elders to determine what has transpired in the past few days at Barge Matal.
