KABUL, Afghanistan (June 22) - An Afghan civilian was shot and killed in Khost province today as his car approached International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops.

During the incident, ISAF troops were assisting Afghan National Army soldiers as they were conducting a security mission in Mandozai district.

In accordance with procedures, ISAF soldiers made a number of attempts to get the vehicle to stop, including using hand and arm signals. After the driver failed to acknowledge the warnings, an ISAF soldier fired a shot in an attempt to disable the vehicle. Unfortunately, the shot killed a passenger in the car.

ISAF values the lives of all Afghans, and took every precaution to prevent this tragic death from occurring.
