KABUL, Afghanistan (June 22) - An uncontrolled explosion at a weapons bunker in Jalalabad killed two Afghans, and injured 16 others including two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers today.

The bunker was part of the Weapons Removal and Abatement program, a program aimed at the removal and disposal of dangerous weapons after armed conflicts.

International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers trained in explosive ordinance disposal, and several ANA soldiers responded to the blast.  The blast caused a large crater, and ISAF and Afghan forces are in the process of clearing any unexploded ordinance.  The wounded were taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

Afghan citizens are cautioned to stay away from the area.

The cause of the blast is unknown at this time.
