KABUL, Afghanistan (March 25) – International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) forces provided medical assistance after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) strike on a mini-bus in Khowst province left eight civilians dead and wounded at least eight others March 25, according to initial reports.

“This is another example of the insurgents causing the deaths of innocent Afghans,” said Brigadier-General Richard Blanchette, ISAF Spokesperson. “Our thoughts go out to the wounded and our condolences to the families and friends of those killed in this callous attack on innocent people.”

The civilians were travelling in the Bak district when the insurgent attack occurred.

Five wounded civilians were brought to an ISAF base nearby for medical treatment. Seven civilians were killed immediately in the strike, and one person was pronounced dead on arrival at the ISAF medical facility.

An additional unknown number of wounded were brought to a local civilian hospital in Khowst and their status is unknown at this time.

All citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity, such as the placing of IEDs, to Afghan National Security Forces.
