BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – An insurgent was saved by Coalition forces when he went to an Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition forces outpost in Cahar Cineh District, Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan.
The man came to the outpost to receive medical aid from injuries he sustained from indirect fire during fighting with ANA and Coalition forces. Afghan National Army and Coalition forces determined he was an insurgent after questioning.
The insurgent had lacerations to the upper right arm, which were infected, requiring more comprehensive medical care. Coalition forces medical specialists, assisted by ANA members, immediately provided medical aid to control bleeding and start initial treatment for the infection.
A Coalition forces helicopter was called to evacuate the insurgent to a nearby medical facility, for further treatment.
“After his wounds were treated the insurgent was detained,” said Army Maj. Chris Belcher Coalition forces spokesman. “Unlike the Taliban, the ANA and Coalition forces take their obligations under the Geneva Conventions seriously.”
