KABUL, Afghanistan – Coalition forces killed 10 Haqqani militants and foreign fighters during an operation to disrupt the Haqqani improvised explosive device and foreign fighter network in Paktya (Paktia) province, Friday.
In Zadran District, Coalition forces targeted several Haqqani leaders and foreign fighters, known to plan and conduct IED attacks aimed to injure and kill innocent civilians and Coalition forces. These militants were also believed to coordinate suicide bombings and other attacks against GIRoA and Coalition forces in the region.
During the operation, the force encountered several groups of armed militants who opened fire on them. Unable to neutralize the threat with small-arms fire, Coalition forces engaged the militants with precision munitions killing them and destroying a large cache of rocket propelled grenades, mines and other ordnance.
