KABUL, Afghanistan –  Afghan National Security Forces, assisted by Coalition forces, Tuesday detained two insurgents and killed one in Zer-e-koh Valley, Shindand District, Herat province.

Elements of the Afghan National Army Commandos conducted a raid on the safe house of Taliban Commander Nangali Khan.  During the operation, Commandos encountered an insurgent carrying an AK-47 assault rifle.  Commandos instructed the insurgent to lie on the ground; instead the insurgent engaged them.  The Commandos returned fire, killing the insurgent.

Commandos encountered no further resistance during the operation, but did detain two other insurgents for questioning.

During the search of the compound, Commandos recovered multiple Taliban-related documents, an AK-47 assault rifle, ammunition and multiple satchels of opium.  The opium was destroyed.

No ANSF, Coalition forces or civilian casualties have been reported.
