BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (July 31, 2008) – A pregnant Afghan woman was injured during an incident involving Coalition forces near the Bala Baluk District, Farah province today.

Coalition forces fired a warning flare at the woman’s vehicle in an attempt to slow the car down and keep it a safe distance from the patrol.  Other warnings were ignored by the driver.

The flare ricocheted off the road and hit the vehicle, causing the driver to come to a sudden stop.

Coalition forces treated the woman on scene and evacuated her to an Afghan hospital for treatment.  Her injuries are not life threatening.

The incident is under investigation.
