One killed, several wounded by militant attack

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (July 2, 2008) – One Afghan non-combatant was killed and several were wounded today when a militant mortar attack directed at a Coalition base in Konar province missed and struck near a group of locals.

The militants, 300 meters inside Pakistan, repeatedly fired mortars at a Coalition base and missed. Coalition forces returned artillery fire and the militants retreated.

All Coalition rounds landed inside Afghanistan.

No Coalition service members were injured.
